The Empire Builder
Chicago to Seattle or Portland (3 days, 2 nights)
Your journey duplicates the one made famous by the James J. Hill and his Great Northern Railroad. The “Empire Builder” travels from Chicago through America’s heartland to Glacier National Park, Northern Idaho and Washington to Seattle or Portland and the Pacific Ocean.
Day 1: Board your private railcar at Chicago Union Station in early afternoon. As we depart, enjoy the views of Chicago skyline from the dome car as the train rolls into the countryside. Our staff has prepared a special welcome reception, featuring cocktails and Hors d’oeuvres. A sumptuous dinner featuring regional cuisine served to you under the stars in the dome highlights the evening.
Day 2: This morning we awake in North Dakota. We see the many farms that fill the landscape as we start the trek across the American Prairies. Again, our chef will be busy as we have breakfast and lunch served enroute. Dinner is served as we travel through Montana and pass through the Rocky Mountains and Glacier National Park. An optional set-out of the car at Whitefish, MT is available for touring Glacier National Park.
Day 3: We awake to breakfast that is served as we pass through the Cascade Mountains or travel along the scenic Columbia River. Our late morning arrival in Seattle or Portland ends your transcontinental rail journey as you experience being your own “Empire Builder”.
Notes: Itinerary is available in opposite direction. Overnight accommodations in Chicago, Portland and Seattle can be arranged as well.
